Magnificent drawing of a couple of dancers by José Manuel Capuletti, artistically known as Capuletti, an extraordinary draftsman and portraitist of Valladolid origin.

The technique is typical of a fast drawing, with loose and expressive strokes, with a silhouette that perfectly defines the figures with a few strokes. It is a dynamic and cheerful work, which represents one of the themes dearest to the artist. A great influence of ballet, flamenco art and dance, bullfighting... can be appreciated in most of his work.

José Manuel Capuletti (Valladolid, 1925 - Walluf, Germany 1978)

José Manuel Capuletti was born in Valladolid in 1925 and from a very early age began to show his great talent as an artist and soon began to hold his first local exhibitions (Palacio de Santa Cruz). He abandoned his studies at the Schools of Fine Arts in Valladolid and Madrid, as he preferred to continue his learning in a self-taught way and following the great masters. His work shows a great influence and admiration for the most prominent authors of Surrealism, especially Salvador Dalí.

Already during his stay in Madrid he oriented his artistic career towards drawing, watercolors and portraits. He frequented the environment of the Spanish ballets, which served as inspiration for many of his works, as in this case. During this period he also worked as a set designer for several of the main companies of the time. He also met Pilar López Fernández, a dancer who became his wife, model and muse.

In 1951 he went to Paris, where he held his first solo exhibition (André Weil Gallery), and soon after to New York, where he achieved great recognition for his work. He held several exhibitions at the Hammer Galleries, while continuing to exhibit in Paris, traveling around the United States doing work as a designer of costumes and sets for the ballet ... He returned to our country in 1967, settling first in Seville a few years later in Madrid.

His work is considered hyperrealist, a quality that describes his portraits in an exceptional way, full of sensitivity, with an absolutely precise drawing. Finally, he died in Walluf (Germany) during a trip in 1978, at the height of his creativity.

The frame is glazed to protect the work.
