Georges Martel was a talented painter and ceramist, known for his works marked by realism and strength.
Produced in the factory of Desvres, this cream colored earthenware of craquele aspect is a testimony of a bygone era.
The artist chose to present a man with weathered features, marked by the years. He wears a traditional hat and carries a pipe in his mouth, held by his two hands, to light the tobacco. Of calm aspect, the man seems to lean on a table. He wears a warm smile.
