Vintage Design

An excellent large ornamental vase of cut crystal glass and gilt bronze in the Empire style, made in France, probably Baccarat, circa 1870: columnar vase shaft of gilt bronze standing on an octagonal, bronze-mounted crystal glass plinth; on the shaft a baluster-shaped body with a long, indented neck of crystal glass with rich cut decoration. Relief ring around the cylindrical belly showing vignettes consisting of pairs of swans and fruit baskets; ring handles with lion head holders on the sides. Lip rim decorated with godroned ring of gilt bronze. The excellence of the execution of both the fine chasing of the bronze and the crystal glass cut give reason to attribute the vase to the Baccarat manufactory, one of the leading French glassblowers and manufactories for decorative luxury objects made of crystal glass, partly with bronze mountings Condition: very good, min. signs of age and wear, min. abrasion.
