About This Piece

A large landscape of the Polish painter Mieszko Jabłoński. Signed in the lower left corner: M. JABŁOŃSKI. Original stickers on the reverse: e.g. Society of Fine Arts in Lviv.

The painting shows a landscape with a view of the forest and the lake. In the foreground you can see rocks and water, further trees and shrubs, and in the background blue hills and a blue sky with gliding white clouds. The painting is part of the painting tradition of Polish colourists. It is characterized by a beautiful, intense color palette oscillating between pure blues and juicy greens, varied with pink beige and yellow accents.

The painting technique is full of expression. The stains of colors, laid with impastos with a clear trace of brush bristles, vibrate and blur, giving the effect of movement.

Mieszko (Mieczysław) Jabłoński (1892-1965) - Polish painter, student of Jacek Malczewski. In the years 1912-14 and 1918-20 he studied in his studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He made artistic journeys, also studying in France and Italy. In the years 1932-1934, a member of the Guild of Artists of the Unicorn - associating colorists. The artist exhibited in major Polish art centers - in his native Krakow, Warsaw and Lviv. His works are in the most important Polish museums - incl. in the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Museum in Warsaw, and the Museum in Lublin.
