About This Piece

The seridécollage, with handmade tears, reproduces the poster for the western directed by Michael Curtiz in 1961 and starring John Wayne, Lee Marvin, and Ina Balin. It features the artist's signature in the lower right corner. For lovers of the western genre, Mimmo Rotella's SeriDécollage inspired by the poster for I Comanceros 1961, a gripping tale of bandits, rangers and outlaws based on the short story of the same name (The Comancheros) by Paul Wellman.
The overbearing, almost uncontrolled rips on the poster suggest the violence, perhaps excessive for the time, that characterizes the scenes in what is considered one of the most spectacular westerns in history.
