Now we have the iconic cabinet called the China Cabinet in model 232, designed by the well-known designer Borge Mogensen. Mogensen's design is timeless and always with the human in focus, which means that his works remain popular and relevant even today. He early became a very influential designer and an important representative of what came to be known as "Danish Modern", a style that has left its mark on furniture design worldwide and continued to inspire generations of both designers and consumers.

Wonderful cabinet with two doors where the interior behind the doors is in light wood with two shelves that offer functionality. There is a deep shelf that is perfect for holding larger items and four shallow drawers that are ideal for organizing smaller items. These drawers can be freely placed together on many different levels, which gives the opportunity for the most optimal storage adapted to your needs. The legs are in oak and they are strategically placed at the far corners, which gives stability and a stylish look. These legs are also adorned with the typical Mogensen slanted braces that extend from the edge down to the legs, which not only strengthens the construction but also adds an extra dimension of elegance and style to the piece.

The cabinet was designed by Børge Mogensen during the 1960s and produced by C. M. Madsens for FDB Møbler, Denmark.

About the Creator

Børge Mogensen

Designer Børge Mogensen was born in Aalborg, Denmark in 1914. He studied furniture design at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under esteemed Professor Kaare Klint from 1936–38. Next, he studied at the School of Furniture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from 1938–41, where he also served as Klint’s teaching assistant. In 1942, Mogensen became head of design at the Danish Consumers Coöperative Society (FDB). He opened his own design office in 1950, and was one of a handful of designers who helped define and popularize the "Danish Modern" design style.

Mogensen’s aesthetic was clean and highly functional. He was driven to create affordable, practical designs, and his preferred material was wood. Clients included Fredericia Stolefabrik, Fritz Hansen, and Søborg Møbelfabrik, among others. Notable projects include Spokeback Sofa (1945), and Spanish Chair (1959), as well as a variety of shelving and storage designs. He was honored with the Eckersberg Medal in 1950, the annual prize from the Copenhagen Carpentry Guild in 1953, and the C.F. Hansen Medal in 1972.

Mogensen passed away in Denmark in 1972.
