About This Piece

Life-size statue of a female muse in antique garb with a wreath of leaves in her hair. She holds a writing tablet at her side and a stylus in her raised right hand. A pharaoh's mask lies to the side at her feet. This could be a reference to the decipherment of hieroglyphics. The statue is made of terracotta with remnants of old painting. The square base shows the most severe wear. The patina has a wonderfully authentic character.
